iLL Communication featuring Terry Francis (Fabric, UK) | The Rooftop, Main Room, Madinat Jumeirah | 8 July, 2010
Since winning Muzik magazines "Best New DJ" award in 1997, Terry Francis has had what can only be described as a meteoric rise to fame. To those previously unfamiliar with his flawless mixing skills and instinctive ability to work a crowd it probably seemed as if he'd arrived out of nowhere. Fact is though, he had been blazing a trail through the underground for no less than ten years before the world at large sat up and took notice. And perhaps more than anything else it was unanimously praised "Architecture" mix album that really put him on the map.

iLL Communication featuring Ashley Casselle (Global Underground, UK) | Quantum, Crowne Plaza | 25 June, 2010
Ashley Casselle is one of those DJs who constantly keeps the elements he loves within the sanctuary of his DJ sets, productions and remixes. His lush deep yet pumping house/techno blend has won him fans from all corners of the globe and now with his pioneering new deep electro and post minimal sound, he's pushing the boundaries even further still. As comfortable playing in tiny dark rooms and after parties in Shoreditch as he is at festivals all over the world in front of big crowds, Ash is a unique DJ who understands how to release the excitement levels continuously and work a room with dance floor magic in his trademark 'grooveathon' sets, as he says “I'm at my best warming up for myself then letting rip in the following hours”.

iLL Communication featuring Pig & Dan (Cocoon, Spain) | The Rooftop, Main Room, Madinat Jumeirah | 24 June, 2010
Trippy and driving electronic beats which are never flamboyant are combined with filigree basslines, giant spherical spaces and weird sounds in long sophisticated arrangements: modern Minimal House with a good share of Techno. Pig & Dan prove to be masters of their trade, and with their productions, sound and style, remind one of the perfection of artists like Guido Schneider or Anders Trentemøller, without ever losing their own handwriting. Despite the stringent concept of Electro House, their productions are applicable in a highly flexible way. Though the tracks suggest, by their driving character, that they fit best into Techno and House DJ sets, friends of calmer sounds will also have a lot of listening fun, because the productions never tend to sound aggressive, they rather manage to set free the really big emotions, sometimes reminding of the high times of Vladislav Delay's Luomo productions.

iLL Communication featuring Yousef (Circus, UK) | The Rooftop, Main Room, Madinat Jumeirah | 10 June, 2010
Reputation is a wonderful thing. It's certainly something Liverpool DJ/Producer Yousef has come accustomed too, carving his own legacy across the global electronica circuit for close on a decade. Yousef was first bitten by the acid house bug at the legendary rave metropolis "Shelly's" in 1991 and since then has grabbed the global industry by the scruff of the neck, forcing his way in through sheer talent and determination.

iLL Communication featuring Ewan Pearson (Kompakt, Berlin) | The Rooftop, Main Room, Madinat Jumeirah | 10 June, 2010
Incr
edibly prolific, Ewan Pearson has released over one hundred remixes and worked with the biggest artists in music; names such as Depeche Mode, the Chemical Brothers and Gwen Stefani are not to be shied away from. His talents are not confined to remixing but go further beyond to include producing (he was at the helm for the debut offerings of The Rapture, Delphic and Lost Valentinos), DJing, head of the Misericord record label and writing – his book Discographies: Dance, Music, Culture and the Politics of Sound was published in 1999. In what must be a first for an electronic dance music artist, Pearson was also a visiting lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of East London.

iLL Communication featuring Anja Schneider (Mobilee, Berlin) | The Rooftop, Main Room, Madinat Jumeirah | 3 June, 2010
Not mLabel founder, internationally renowned DJ and producer, world-traveler, and charming personality all rolled into one, Anja Schneider might just be one of the hardest-working individuals in the business. After getting her start as a producer for KissFM and Fritz Radio, Anja quickly became a radio persona herself with the inception of her now legendary Dance Under the Blue Moon show in 2000. It wasn’t long before Anja’s irresistible magnetism and impeccable taste in music caught the attention of the Berlin masses, propelling her career as a DJ and musician into a full-blown enterprise.

iLL Communication featuring Carl Craig (Planet E, Detroit) | The Rooftop, Madinat Jumeirah | 20 May, 2010
There are DJs who grab bigger headlines, and producers who invite more press. In the ebb and flow of what's popular in electronic music, there are those who have larger followings or whose names are on more bloggers' fingertips at any given moment in time. But no artist in the genre commands as much respect, from fans and peers alike, as consistently and influentially as Detroit-based DJ and producer CARL CRAIG. As an artist, a label-owner and club DJ, he is one of the few who has literally helped shape the sound of modern electronic music, with an inventive career that has spanned 18 years.

iLL Communication featuring Ame (Innvervisions, Germany) | The Rooftop, Madinat Jumeirah | 13 May, 2010
Where do connections to Detroit, Chicago, New York, Berlin and Paris all emerge? No, it is not the Frankfurt airport because this city is even another part of it. Geographically it might not make any sense but music-wise we are definitely talking about Karlsruhe here. In the little town in very western Germany all these cities influences join forces in the studio of Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer, together forming the duo Âme (speak: Ahm, = French for soul). Their soulful mission to explore far beyond the borders of house music already captured the attention all major peeps involved in present club music. Delivering constant quality with 12″s that are rocking house, techno and broken beat floors alike it seems like a logical move to proceed to the next step of releasing a collection of their winners.

From 2002 she was resident DJ at Weetamix Club in Geneva, along with Luciano and Sonja Moonear, where she played with artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Daniel Bell, Derrick May, Richie Hawtin and many more. No matter what sounds you profess to be your music of choice, chances are, that at some point over the last five years, you will have got your rocks off to Radio Slave. A man of many monikers, Matt Edwards uses his Rekid outlet for his deeper, more underground sounds, the kind of tunes that get the likes of DJ Hell, Lindstrom, Tiga and Trevor Jackson all hot under the collar and cold rockin’ the floor. Having remixed and worked with a list of stars that could make the most avid autograph hunter turn incredible hulk with envy, Matt aka Radio Slave can pull out styles from Walter Gibbons or Metro Area electronic Disco, to Dilla-esque hip hop, and the abstract house runnings of Theo Parrish. Together with Joel Martin he records balearic soundscapes and film scores for music never made. 23rd Century dance music is here.

iLL Communication featuring Josh Wink (Ovum, Philadelphia) | The Rooftop, Madinat Jumeirah | 18 March, 2010

Not many underground-minded DJs can boast of a career as extensive as Josh Wink's. Over 20 years of making and playing music, Philadelphia's prime purveyor of twisted techno and house has done it all. From releasing chart-topping global dance anthems and playing the world's biggest clubs and festivals, to dropping mind-scrambling beats at Ibiza's notorious DC-10, to holding down a humble monthly Wednesday residency in his hometown for a decade, Wink has earned himself legions of fans, all of them won over by his no-nonsense approach to DJing and his incredible knack for making huge records. He's known for his diversity and thoughtfulness in his selections, as evidenced by his recent Essential Mix for the BBC, a typically genre-crossing set that featured tracks from DJ Sneak, Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts, D'Julz, Thom Yorke, JPLS and many more.

iLL Communication featuring Paco Osuna (Mindshake, Plus 8, Barcelona) | The Rooftop, Madinat Jumeirah | 4 March, 2010

Speaking about Paco Osuna is referring to one of the most successful producers and DJs to hail from Spain, so much so that he has forged a very important position within the top ranks of the European dance community as a whole, and it is not easy to summarize his success, but it is possible to derive it from three common denominators: creativity, innovation and evolution.

iLL Communication featuring Chloe (Kill the DJ) | The Rooftop, Madinat Jumeirah | 28 January, 2010

What is the misguided perception of Chloé Thévenin. A certain feminine discretion? The sobriety of a Dj supposedly belonging, from near or far, to the minimal brotherhood. What else? Maybe the only thing to know about Chloé could be written on a single line: her music (the music she composes and mixes) doesn't let you know which foot to dance on.

DIGITAL Returns at Chi @ The Lodge with Mo Wax and UNKLE Label owner, renowned DJ and Producer James Lavelle. See him live in the Chi Garden Thursday, January 21st 2010! Inspired by the sound systems put together by the likes of Afrikaa Bambaata in the states and by the Wild Bunch over in Bristol, James started buying records by the bucketload and providing the soundtracks to his home town Oxford's own blockparty scene. The first party he put on, at 15, made him enough money to get a pair of decks and with Oxford starting to run out of vinyl, London beckoned. There's probably no better example of right place, right time.

The first Thursday, May 7th will feature Berlin based DJ/Producer M.A.N.D.Y.from the one of the biggest record labels in techno music today Get Phyiscal Music to kick start the summer sessions for iLL Communications @ The Rooftop, Souk Madinat. M.A.N.D.Y. story begins on a tennis court in Saarbrücken, near the German-French border. That’s where Patrick Bodmer met Philipp Jung on a summer’s day twenty years ago. Together they ran wild and wished for a life that could only be about their great loves - collecting records, throwing parties and meeting girls. They dreamt of a way to live as a child, running happy and free. Over the next years they consumed music, raved and span records at every opportunity. DJ T and Patrik (The Sunsetpeople), from Frankfurt’s Monza club, heard them play at a party and noticed them on the dancefloor, stamping their feet and ripping their clothes. They became close friends, and M.A.N.D.Y. have held a Monza residency since 2001. For M.A.N.D.Y. their next moves to a last exit, a final chance to do something special before time ran away from them. They decided to create a label with their friends Booka Shade and DJ T, utilising the talent of the close friends in their circle. They called it Get Physical: in tribute to the dancefloor. Since the creation of the label, M.A.N.D.Y. have come into their own as artists and DJs. Their natural easy friendship allowed their skills to gradually flourish and their heartfelt excitement for what they do ignites every floor.

Chosen by DJ Magazine as one of their “faces to watch for in 2003,” Fair has begun his assault on the international dance music scene with an eclectic style that includes twisted vocal house, funky progressive and trippy electro-tech.
His first exposure to club culture was being hired as a busboy at Toronto's legendary, now-defunct Industry Nightclub. It was there that he refined his ear for all forms of dance music, and made the decision to give DJing and producing a shot after hearing sets every weekend from legends such as Derrick Carter, David Morales, Roger Sanchez and Cevin Fisher. Within 4 months, he went from being a busboy, to the club's sound and lighting engineer, to being asked by co-owner and Toronto legend, DJ Matt C, to man the opening dj slot on Saturday nights. DJ/Producer Kenny Hawkes has been a pioneering influence on the British dance scene for over a decade. As a kid growing up in Brighton, Kenny soaked up the sounds of Motown, Ska, Hip Hop, Dub Reggae instead of going to school. As soon as he hit 18 he disappeared off to Southern Europe, where he spent endless evenings developing his DJ skills by playing at some of Europe's most notorious after hours clubs. He returned home in the early 90s, skint and unknown. One morning whilst lounging about and listening to the radio, he stumbled across a Pirate Radio Station called "Girls FM" that played Downbeat, Dub,Soul,Techno and Garage. At that time the station only had one DJ, but they were looking for more. It wasn't long before Kenny joined up and moved to London with the station - which he ended up managing - and in no time "Girls FM" was attracting up to a million listeners a month. An achievement Kenny is very proud of - after all, he wasn't just playing on it, he was running it and steering its musical direction.

Blazin' with PEACE DIVISION | Thurs 11 March | @ Terminal (Millenium Airport Hotel)

The unfortunate incident at Terminal this week was a serious deja-vu

Place: Uptown NYC, SugarHill Harlem, Shady Warehouse
Time: Saturday Night around 4.15 am in Aug 1997

Setting: The Godfather of Techno Frankie Bones taking over from his predecessor/brother Adam X - slamming the beats to a hungry crowd of 2000 ravers. Everybody is jumping! besides those who had a hard time finding the venue thru the back-alleys of SugarHill / Or couldnt understand the slurry directions of the freakgirl on the infoline.
Siren goes off at half past 4. Everybody in the room (almost!) knows what the siren means. Some wait for the Primitive Beats track to get over, others look for their scurried friends, making their way out thru the numerous exits of the abondened steel factory.
Outside - while u make your way to the nearest T - the street lights flicker in your eyes at 1400 times per second - a lot faster than the imaginary beat in your head.
On the way - u stop by the phone booth, find your lucky quarter attch to the string, and call the freakgirl on the infoline for new directions - cause THE PARTY DONT STOP!
